The palm trees of the Canary Islands in Passeio Alegre

The beautiful palm trees are a highlight in Passeio Alegre garden, in Foz do Douro. Originating in the Canary Islands, they embellish this green space where the ocean and the river meet.

From the Phoenix canariensis Chabaud species, average 17 meters in height and up to one meter in diameter. Its assembly forms an Alameda that is classified as public interest. The palm tree is, in most cases, used as an ornamental plant and associated with hot climates.

In the specific case of the Passeio Alegre garden, on sunny and hot days, the combination of all these elements is perfect and completely worth the visit. Recommended for a morning stroll or during the afternoon, being of course also stunning at night, it's a good place to walk with family and friends.
