Originally from Mexico and the United States, Phytolacca heterotepala H.Walter, although rare, can be found in the Douro Litoral and, more specifically, in Porto aswell.
It is a species of flowering plant, classified as exotic because it was introduced into the environment by human interference, having been fermented or cultivated. It is usually found in degraded and debris regions, aswell as in paths.
Phytolacca heterotepala H.Walter can be confused with Phytolacca americana by the similarity that the two species present. However, the visual difference between the two is due to the fact that generally two of the petals of Ph. Heterotepala are narrower than the others, besides the fact that the first is considered rare, while the Ph. Americana can be considered usual weed.
