Among the natural charms that Porto provides is the Foz do Rio Douro, where the Douro river meets the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Rio Douro, which is born in the province of Soria, Spain, travels its 897 kilometers long to bid farewell to the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Its beauty is so impressive that in December 2001, UNESCO classified the area as a World Heritage Site in the cultural landscape category.

The creation of two jetties (maritime works of hydraulic engineering) allowed greater stabilization of the banks of the Douro estuary and the river banks along Foz, which improved the navigation conditions. Thus, it is possible to observe the sailboats crossing the river with tranquility, while crossing the border.
Although it is a more recommended tour during the summer, it is still worth visiting Foz at other times of the year. In addition to being peaceful, the place is easily accessible and with its natural beauty enchants people of all ages and from all over the world.
