Originally found in the Iberian Peninsula, the Coelho-Bravo, or oryctolagus cuniculus, is an animal
with unique characteristics and habits. In Portugal and some parts of Spainm, it
is found under the sub-species O.c.algirus.
Almost endangered, Coelho-Bravo is a constant
subject among environmentalists, scholars and hunters for having an important
role in the survival of other species, such as the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) and
the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus), which have the rabbit as their main diet.
However, the reintroduction of the Iberian lynx in the wild requires reproduction campaigns of rabbits, which in turn were also almost extinct due to their pathogenic characteristics, which hinders the whole process.

Finding these animals in the wild, especially in public parks, is usually not easy. Wild rabbits normally live in places by the sea that have a
connection to the forest and have nocturnal habits.
During the day, rabbits often hide in the bushes and in
their underground burrows, usually in pairs. In favorable places, it is possible
to find groups with up to twenty animals characterized by the grayish coat in
their bodies.
In Porto, you can find some of these animals in Parque da Cidade, but it takes patience and a lot of searching. Who knows, a bit of luck during the day!
