Magnolia is a large tree from North America, which can be found easily in varied green spaces of our city. Many of these are already classified as Public Interest trees.

The Magnolia grandiflora, or Magnolia of large flowers, of the family Magnoliaceae, is present in the well-known Gardens of the Palácio de Cristal, in the Marques de Oliveira Garden (or just the Garden of São Lázaro), in Parque da Cidade and also in 9 de Abril Square (or Garden of Arca d'Água). This last one will possibly be the best to appreciate this species, for its history and the highlight that the 12 specimens present there, forming a lane.
Its height is variable - between 15 and 27 meters - and the size of its leaves go from 10 to 25 centimeters. It has perennial foliage and is usually used as an ornament. Its flowers are white and showy and appear in late spring.
