The most awaited season of the year has arrived and with it the colors gradually return to Porto. It's time to step out of bed and enjoy the beauty and diversity of the many gardens that the city has to offer. Among so many options, where to start?
One of the most popular places certainly is the
gardens of Palácio de Cristal. Located in Massarelos, this green space occupies
an area of 8 hectares designed in the 19th century, by the german landscape
architect Émille David. Even though its size does not compare with Parque da
Cidade size, the diversity of species is much bigger.

There are just a few spaces preserved from the original project: Emille David's garden at the main entrance, the Avenida das Tílias, the woods
and the design of the balconies to the Douro river, which view you can't miss.

The flora of the garden includes species such as Tulipeiro de Virginia
(Liriodendron tulipifera), Acer (Acer negundo), Tilia (Cordata, Platyphyllos
and Tomentosa), Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora), Metrosideros, Palm Tree
(Washingtonia Robusta), Araucaria (Araucaria Heterophylla), among others.
Besides the majestic trees and plants, there's also Jardim dos Sentimentos, that counts with a rose garden and a lake where
swans and ducks swim happily. Other animals compose the local fauna, such as
the famous indian peacock.
