The sparrow is a bird well known by men. They fly and nest in urban areas and can be seen all over the world, even in the most odd spaces.

This bird can be 10 to 20 centimeters long and weigh between 10 to 50 grams, normally. While the male have a mostly gold, black, grey and brown feathers, the female only present a brownish color. They have a large beak, for their normal diet: seeds and small insects.

Generally, these birds form groups and nest practically anywhere. Female sparrows can lay a maximum of 8 eggs, which are incubated by both parents. They are supposed to hatch 12 to 14 days later, but there are a few records of eggs only hatching after 24 days.

Originally from Africa and Eurasia, this bird was inserted in other ecosystems around the world by traveling humans. The sparrows were first released in Brazil back in 1903, which were brought from Portugal. This close relationship to us can be proven with their constant presence in our streets, cities or villages. Even in odd places, like Costa Coffee in Porto, for example!

Costa Coffee is not a usual spot to see them, of course. For that, we suggest you go to Parque da Cidade, if you want to watch the sparrow in a more natural habitat. So, what are you waiting for?
