Located on Rua do Freixo, in Porto, you will find one of the less known green spaces of the city, the Villa d'Allen.
Classified as a Property of Public Interest, it belongs to the family of the English merchant John Allen. It's considered a survivor of all of the villages that used to surround the city of Porto in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Although it presents an exuberant building of eclectic architecture, typical of the romanticism, what enchants the lovers of the nature are the gardens that surround the whole property, with the presence of lakes, streams and plants, characteristic of Porto's flora, besides a huge collection of camellias, the symbol of the city. Members of the Allen Family, as admirers of botany, were responsible for the extension of the romantic gardens, with the creation of a forest full of paths and woods, sculptures and ruins, classic characteristics of romanticism.

The combination of all these factors undoubtedly gives some enchantment to Villa d'Allen. It is a worthwhile stroll at any time of the year, also suitable for all ages. Guided visits to the gardens are held every Saturday from 10 am to 7 pm, by prior appointment. It is also possible to visit the Villa's ornamental plant nursery, which is open from Monday to Friday, from 08:30 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays, from 9 am to 5 pm.
